MUMBAI — When Bollywood milestones collide with political satire, you get the latest episode of Shekhar Tonite. Actor and talk-show veteran Shekhar Suman recently took aim at one of tinsel town’s most talked-about events: Aamir Khan’s third marriage to Gauri Spratt. In a masterful monologue, Suman leaned heavily into political and locomotive metaphors, playfully crowning Khan the undisputed king of forming and managing complex "alliances."

Suman wasted no time drawing parallels between India’s intricate political landscape and Khan’s romantic history. He joked that struggling politicians could take a masterclass in coalition-building from the superstar. Dubbing Khan's third marriage a true mahagathbandhan (grand alliance), Suman delivered a backhanded compliment wrapped in humor.

“This man has given a unique vision to several generations yet to come,” Suman quipped. “And that vision is to chase something till you don’t achieve it.”

With his signature wordplay, the host couldn't resist a sly pun regarding the new bride's name, pausing mid-sentence to say, “Aapne Gauri… ek minute… gaur kia hoga.”

Moving from politics to railways, Suman likened Khan's personal life to a long-distance train journey. He compared the actor to an expert engine driver who seamlessly detaches and reattaches bogies at various stations without ever derailing. Taking a swipe at current political talking points, Suman teased the government's operational struggles compared to Khan's smooth transitions.

"Our government can't run a double engine smoothly, and he's running a triple engine now," Suman joked.

As Khan secures his own version of achchhe din (good days), Suman pointed out that the actor has achieved something even seasoned leaders struggle with: back-to-back successes. Highlighting that Khan has now successfully formed a government with a full majority for the third consecutive time, Suman joked that the superstar is giving the current administration a run for its money. He quipped that even Prime Minister Modi must be looking over his shoulder, realizing he has a new competitor in the record-breaking department.

The private registry ceremony on July 5 at Khan’s Bandra residence was notably attended by his ex-wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, all his children, and Spratt’s son from a previous marriage. Suman referred to this peaceful gathering of former and current partners as a prime example of vasudhaiva kutumbakam (the world is one family). He playfully suggested that the opposition INDIA bloc should take rigorous notes on how Khan manages to bring former allies along into new partnerships without a hint of friction.

Bringing the house down with a final punchline about Khan's famous Bollywood moniker, Suman concluded, "Now, I get why he's called the 'perfectionist'. He continues to do something till he becomes perfect at it. As we all know, perfection ki koi seema nahi hoti… Seema chhodiye, koi Reena, koi Kiran nahi hoti."

Khan and Spratt, who reconnected in Bengaluru in early 2024 after first meeting in 2001, tied the knot in an intimate celebration surrounded by close friends and family. Despite the comedic fodder it provides for late-night television, Khan's modern family dynamic continues to prove that even if Suman considers it a "triple engine," it is clearly running on a very smooth track.
