Mamata Banerjee Blames Radical Communal Forces and Rejected Political Elements for Baruipur Violence

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday alleged that "radical communal forces" and politically rejected elements may have played a role in the violence that erupted in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, following the alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl.

Chief Minister Visits Baruipur

During her visit, Mamata Banerjee met the family of the minor victim and also the family of Indrajit Mondal, an auto-rickshaw driver who was beaten to death after the girl's body was recovered from a pond. She assured both families of the government's support and reiterated that justice would be ensured.

Allegations Over Violence

The Chief Minister stated that individuals rejected by voters in previous elections or radical communal forces could have instigated the unrest that followed the recovery of the victim's body. She said the ongoing investigation would establish the facts and that strict action would be taken against all those found responsible.

Banerjee also maintained that Indrajit Mondal was innocent and emphasized that those involved in his killing would face murder charges. She said several suspects had already been identified through photographs and video footage, leading to multiple arrests.

Government Assistance to the Family

As part of the government's relief measures, the Chief Minister handed over a cheque of Rs 25 lakh to Indrajit Mondal's parents and provided an appointment letter for the post of civic volunteer to his elder brother. She assured the family that the state government would continue to extend all possible assistance.

Investigation Continues

The alleged rape and murder of the minor girl has triggered widespread public outrage across West Bengal. Authorities are continuing their investigation into both the crime and the violence that followed. Police have arrested multiple individuals in connection with the incidents, while further investigations remain underway.

Political Reactions

The incident has intensified political debate in West Bengal, with different parties raising concerns over law and order and the handling of the case. The state government has maintained that the investigation will proceed without interference and that those responsible for both the murder and the subsequent violence will be brought to justice.
