KOLKATA — West Bengal's Lok Bhavan, the administrative office of the Governor, has lodged a formal complaint with Kolkata Police's Cyber Crime Cell after an unidentified person began placing calls to senior officials and prominent figures while falsely posing as the Governor and as a senior Lok Bhavan official.

In an advisory issued Friday, Lok Bhavan said it had recently detected that the calls were being made from a specific mobile number, with the caller misrepresenting themselves to create confusion at the highest levels of the administration. The advisory said the impersonator has been directly targeting various dignitaries, senior government officials and other influential individuals across the state. according to reports by our editor sourav mukharjee, kolkata & howra zone.

Number Made Public, Case Registered

As part of the investigation, Lok Bhavan publicly disclosed the number allegedly used to make the fraudulent calls in the Governor's name: +91 98365 40163. A formal complaint has been filed with Kolkata Police's Cyber Crime Cell, and police have registered a case. Detectives at Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters, are now investigating who is behind the calls and whether the impersonation is linked to a wider financial fraud or an attempt at administrative disruption.

Advisory to Officials and the Public

Lok Bhavan has issued clear instructions to government officials and citizens alike: do not act on any suspicious or unsolicited call or message claiming to be from the Governor or a Lok Bhavan official without first verifying its authenticity, and remain cautious against falling for such fraudulent calls.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call from the disclosed number, or through any other channel, claiming to represent the Governor or Lok Bhavan, has been asked to report it immediately through official channels — by phone at 033-2200-1641 to 44, or by email at generalcellgs@gmail.com.

An Unusual Case for State Administration

Officials described the attempt to exploit the state's highest constitutional office for fraud as highly unusual in the context of West Bengal's politics and law enforcement. Police are working to determine the intended purpose of the calls and identify who was targeted, while Nabanna, the state secretariat, and other arms of the administration have stepped up caution against further fraudulent calls.
