Major Drug Bust in Lalgola: Police Seize Heroin Worth Over ₹4 Crore, Two Arrested

LALGOLA (MURSHIDABAD): In a massive breakthrough for the state's ongoing anti-narcotics campaign, the Lalgola police in Murshidabad district seized a huge consignment of heroin with an estimated international market value exceeding ₹4 crore. Acting on credible secret intelligence, law enforcement officials arrested two key operatives red-handed during the raid.

The Arrest and Phased Seizure The arrested individuals have been identified as Nimai Sarkar and Momin Sheikh, both residents of the Atarsiya area within the Lalgola police station limits. According to police sources, the massive haul of high-quality heroin was confiscated in phases. Investigators first recovered 1.460 kg of the contraband, followed by a subsequent seizure of 1.704 kg, bringing the total confiscated amount to 3.164 kg.

Uncovering the Smuggling Syndicate The sheer volume of the seized narcotics points to a highly organized operation. Preliminary investigations by the Lalgola police suggest that this large quantity of heroin was being stockpiled to be trafficked elsewhere, likely pointing to the involvement of a broader inter-state or international drug smuggling syndicate.

On Monday, both Sarkar and Sheikh were produced before the special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court in Baharampur. The police are actively seeking police custody of the accused to subject them to intense interrogation. Authorities hope that questioning the duo will help investigators reach the roots of the smuggling network and identify the kingpins orchestrating the illicit drug trade in the region.
