Another Aide of MLA Humayun Arrested Over Provocative Remarks at Murshidabad Rally

The political fallout from Nawda MLA Humayun's controversial and provocative remarks continues to escalate. In a recent development, police have arrested Salim Sheikh, a close follower of the MLA and a local leader of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party, for his involvement in organizing the disputed rally in Rejinagar, Murshidabad.

Late-Night Arrest and Court Appearance Salim Sheikh was apprehended from his residence in Nabagram, Murshidabad, late Saturday night. According to police sources, Sheikh was present at the controversial Rejinagar meeting and served as one of its primary organizers. He was subsequently produced before the Baharampur district court on Sunday.

The Controversy and Political Backlash The arrests stem from a recent Aam Janata Unnayan Party public gathering in Rejinagar, where MLA Humayun delivered a highly controversial speech, notably using the provocative term "Snyata." The remarks triggered a massive political uproar across the state.

The situation reached a boiling point in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, where Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari issued a strong statement severely condemning the MLA's comments. Following this high-level legislative criticism, the local administration and police significantly ramped up their crackdown on those involved in the event.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Summons With the apprehension of Salim Sheikh, the total number of individuals arrested in connection with the rally has now reached four, including three key organizers. MLA Humayun himself has faced mounting pressure; the police have registered multiple complaints against him and summoned him to the police station for lengthy interrogations on several occasions.

Despite the ongoing crackdown and the arrest of his close aides, Humayun has maintained a striking silence and has yet to issue any official reaction regarding Sheikh's detention.
