MSCI India August 2026 Rebalance: Eternal Ltd and Laurus Labs Lead Inclusions; SBI Cards at Risk
A digital stock market board highlighting the projected passive capital inflows for the MSCI India Standard Index rebalance

MUMBAI — The Indian equity market is closely tracking the upcoming August 2026 rebalance of the MSCI India Standard Index, an event expected to trigger massive passive foreign institutional flows. According to the latest expectations released by brokerage firm Axis Capital, the reshuffle could see major weight revisions and new entries, with Eternal Ltd., Adani Energy Solutions Ltd., and Laurus Labs Ltd. emerging as the biggest potential beneficiaries.

The official index changes are scheduled to be announced by MSCI after market hours on August 12, 2026, and the adjustments will become effective on September 1, 2026. However, market experts caution that the final inclusion list depends entirely on MSCI's price cut-off period, which will be determined during any of the last ten trading sessions of July. This variable means the final lineup could still shift before the official reveal.

Projected Passive Capital Inflows (Potential Gainers)

Axis Capital has assigned a high probability of entry for the new inclusions, alongside a massive index weight revision for Eternal Ltd. The expected reshuffle could drive billions of rupees into these specific counters:

Stock Name Expected Event Estimated Inflows ($) Estimated Inflows (₹) Projected Share Volume
Eternal Ltd. Higher Index Weight $520 million ~₹5,000 crore 174.3 million (17.43 crore) shares
Laurus Labs Ltd. New Inclusion $410 million ~₹3,942.29 crore Not Specified
Adani Energy Solutions New Inclusion $260 million ~₹2,500.82 crore Not Specified

Projected Passive Capital Outflows (Risk of Deletion)

On the flip side, several prominent companies are currently skating on the edge of exclusion from the benchmark index, which could trigger significant passive selling pressure:

  • Balkrishna Industries: Faces a projected outflow of $122 million (approximately ₹1,173.20 crore). Axis Capital currently classifies this potential exclusion as a borderline case depending on its performance heading into the cut-off.

  • SBI Cards & Payment Services: Faces a projected passive outflow of $110 million (approximately ₹1,057.93 crore).

  • Astral Ltd.: Faces a projected passive outflow of $102 million (approximately ₹980.93 crore).

Wildcard and Conditional Inclusions

Beyond the high-probability candidates, the brokerage also identified two "dark horse" stocks that could still sneak into the final inclusion list. However, these conditional inclusions require significant short-term price rallies before the July cut-off deadline to meet MSCI's strict market capitalization thresholds:

  • Glenmark Pharmaceuticals: Requires a share price jump of roughly 10% to secure inclusion.

  • Coforge: Requires a share price jump of roughly 6% to meet the entry criteria.

Market participants will be closely monitoring the price action of these borderline and wildcard stocks as the July cut-off window approaches.
