Tourist Drowns in Ramgarh River After Kainchi Dham Pilgrimage Visit

NAINITAL, India — A youth traveling with three friends from Jaipur to Kedarnath drowned while bathing in the Ramgarh River in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district on Sunday. The group had stopped in the region to visit the famous Kainchi Dham shrine before continuing their pilgrimage toward the higher Himalayan temples.

According to reports from local authorities detailed by Dainik Jagran, the four friends entered the water near Ramgarh to cool off during their journey. One of the youths unexpectedly stepped into a deep stretch of the riverbed and was swept away by strong underwater currents. Surrounding companions raised an immediate alarm, prompting local residents and police units to notify emergency response teams.

A specialized unit from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) arrived at the scene shortly after receiving emergency calls. SDRF divers launched an intensive deep-water search and rescue operation, eventually retrieving the young man’s body from a deep pool in the riverbed.

The incident has caused widespread shock and panic among local shopkeepers and pilgrims in the vicinity. Local authorities have registered a report, notified the victim's family in Jaipur, and initiated preliminary procedures to send the body for a formal post-mortem examination. Police officials have reiterated public safety warnings cautioning tourists against entering unpredictable river streams in the mountain districts during the monsoon pilgrimage season.
