Violent Altercation at Doon Medical College Hospital Leaves Female Security Staff Injured

​DEHRADUN, India — Chaos erupted at the Government Doon Medical College and Hospital (GDMCH) in Dehradun after a violent altercation broke out between patients' attendants and the hospital's on-duty security personnel. The physical clash resulted in severe injuries to two female security guards, with one struck on the head with a bottle and another repeatedly kicked in the abdomen.  

​The dispute initiated over a routine blood sample extraction procedure. Tensions escalated rapidly when a group of attendants became aggressive with the medical and auxiliary staff, prompting female security guards to intervene in an effort to pacify the situation and protect the facility's ward environment.

​The physical assault on the security staff caused immediate panic and uproar across the busy hospital wing. Witnesses reported that during the peak of the commotion, an assailant used a heavy glass bottle as a weapon to strike one female guard directly on the head. Simultaneously, another female guard attempting to restrain the aggressive crowd was thrown to the floor and kicked violently in the stomach.

​Local law enforcement from the Dehradun city division arrived at the medical complex shortly after receiving emergency panic signals from hospital administrators. Hospital security and doctors have previously voiced escalating concerns over the lack of systemic protections for frontline medical workers, following a series of rowdy brawls and safety breaches within the premises over the past year.

​Police personnel have initiated a formal statutory inquiry into the incident, using internal closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the ward to identify the individuals involved in the physical assault. Hospital management confirmed that the injured guards received immediate emergency medical treatment within the facility, while medical unions have condemned the violence and demanded the strict application of institutional security acts to protect healthcare employees from aggressive mobs.
