Baruipur Horror: Autopsy Reveals 11-Year-Old Was Thrown Into Pond Alive After Being Raped
West Bengal police officials and investigators cordoning off a crime scene near a pond in Baruipur.

The worst fears and suspicions surrounding the tragic Baruipur incident have been confirmed. Preliminary post-mortem findings indicate that the 11-year-old Class 6 student was subjected to a brutal sexual assault before being thrown into a local pond while still breathing.

According to sources within the police and the state health department, the attackers struck the young girl on the head with a heavy object and choked her until she lost consciousness. Assuming she was dead, they stuffed her into a sack and discarded her body in the water on Saturday night. Tragically, the autopsy conducted at the Kantapukur morgue confirms she was still alive at the time.

Chilling Post-Mortem Details

The forensic report highlights "antemortem drowning," meaning the victim's lungs and stomach contained water, proving she inhaled water after being submerged.

This devastating revelation implies that while frantic searches were underway on Saturday night, the young girl might have still been alive. Local residents and family members have expressed massive outrage, stating that had the local police acted more swiftly the moment the missing diary was filed, she might have been rescued.

Medical examiners also confirmed clear signs of sexual assault. The report documented extensive injuries, including a severe head wound that caused heavy bleeding, trauma to her private parts, and numerous scratch and bite marks across her body.

Arrests and the Failed Escape

Investigators have identified four individuals involved in the horrific crime. Three suspects are currently in police custody:

  • Ananda Sardar (identified as the prime accused)

  • Dibakar Sardar

  • Prabhas Mandal

A fourth suspect, identified as Prabir Mandal, remains absconding, and a massive manhunt is underway.

According to statements extracted from Prabhas, the brutal assault culminated when Ananda pinned the girl's neck down with his foot, causing her to faint. Following the crime, Ananda desperately tried to flee. He sought refuge at a contact's house in Hasimpur (Jaynagar) and later at a relative's place in Bakultala. However, as news of the crime spread rapidly, nobody was willing to harbor him. Running out of money and options, Ananda was forced to return to the outskirts of Baruipur, where police finally apprehended him on Monday morning.

IG Barui Steps In to Untangle the Case

The investigation is being heavily monitored by Kankar Prasad Barui, IG (Presidency Range). Barui, who brings extensive past experience from the Baruipur and South 24 Parganas districts, was seen actively managing the volatile situation at the police station throughout Sunday night.

Because many officers in the Baruipur police district are recent transfers unfamiliar with the local terrain, IG Barui reportedly activated his old informant networks. He even temporarily recalled several experienced officers who had previously served in Baruipur to help track down the culprits.

"We have arrested three accused. Two of them were produced in court on Monday and remanded to 14 days of police custody," IG Barui confirmed to the press.

Mob Violence and Political Crossfire

The brutal crime has ignited severe secondary violence and political mudslinging in the region.

On Sunday morning, a furious mob publicly lynched a youth named Indrajit Tanti, suspecting him of being involved in the crime. While his actual involvement remains officially unconfirmed, a police source noted that an email complaint sent by the victim’s relative on Sunday night did name Tanti as a suspect.

Adding to the complexity, local BJP leader Santanu Mandal (President of Baruipur-West Mondal 3) has been detained for questioning. He faces serious allegations of using his political clout to initially rescue the prime accused, Ananda Sardar, from the grasp of local residents before the police could arrive. Conversely, Mandal is also credited with rescuing another accused, Prabhas Mandal, from the lynch mob and safely handing him over to law enforcement.

TMC MLA and former Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee demanded a thorough probe, stating, "There are serious allegations against the BJP leader for allegedly freeing the accused. The police must uncover the truth." Meanwhile, BJP's Jadavpur organizational district general secretary Biswajit Pal defended Mandal, arguing that he actually assisted the administration by preventing a second mob lynching and handing the accused to the authorities.

Mounting Cases and Civil Frustration

Alongside the main kidnapping, rape, and murder FIR, the police have registered several suo motu cases. These include the mob lynching of Indrajit Tanti, violent attacks on police and central forces, vandalism of police vehicles, and extensive blockades of state highways and railway tracks. No arrests have been made in these secondary cases yet.

Meanwhile, civil society's frustration with the local administration continues to grow. A delegation from 'Voice of Abhaya, Voice of Women' submitted a memorandum to the Baruipur Inspector-in-Charge (IC) on Monday.

Biplab Chandra, a representative of the group, expressed deep disappointment. "We are frustrated. The newly transferred IC claimed he knew nothing more about the case than what he saw in the news. Hearing this from the head of the local station makes us seriously question if the investigation is on the right track and if justice will truly be served," Chandra stated.
