Fortified Devotion: Seven-Tiered Security Network and 70,000 Personnel Deployed for Safe Kanwar Yatra.
The Uttar Pradesh government has established an unprecedented multi-layered defense strategy for the annual Shravan Kanwar Yatra. Shiva temples across the state will be guarded by a strict seven-tiered security ring, overseen by 70,000 police personnel. To guarantee emergency readiness, the elite Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has been activated to monitor high-risk routes, major congregation zones, and vulnerable religious sites.
In a major enforcement drive aimed at delivering a peaceful, incident-free pilgrimage, the Uttar Pradesh police administration has unveiled a massive security blueprint for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued instructions stating that the protection, convenience, and respect of every devotee remain the government’s topmost priority.
A Seven-Layer Shield for Shiva Temples :- The defining component of this year's plan is the integration of a specialized seven-tiered security ring encircling major Shivalalayas (Shiva temples) across key zones. This layered framework systematically protects separate coordinates:- The Sanctum Sanctorum (Garbhagriha): Closely managed indoor crowd control.Immediate Perimeter: Exterior temple steps and access courtyards.Outer Boundaries: Structural temple gates and entry lines.Approach Paths: Primary pilgrimage corridors leading directly to the shrines.Transit Outposts: Interconnected route checkpoints and temporary police bases.Riverbank Ghats: Dedicated water bodies where devotees collect holy water (Jal).Aerial/CCTV Surveillance Zones: Overhead digital monitoring covering surrounding neighborhoods.
Massive Manpower and ATS Oversight :- To support this wide defensive footprint, 70,000 police personnel are being actively deployed on the ground. This force consists of civilian police units, armed traffic contingents, Quick Response Teams (QRTs), and specialized undercover female police squads tasked with safeguarding women devotees at crowded ghats and temple entries.Crucially, the state's elite Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has been integrated into the active command pool. ATS teams will conduct high-tech counter-surveillance along designated highways, monitor intelligence feeds for any suspicious activities, and maintain continuous oversight to deter antisocial elements from disrupting communal harmony.
Comprehensive Public Support Services:- Beyond raw security, administrative subdivisions like the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) are rolling out supportive infrastructure along the main transit paths. Round-the-clock district control rooms have been made operational to address emergencies.Pothole repair campaigns are underway along the six designated pilgrimage routes, and emergency services—including the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) flood companies, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and trained local divers—have been positioned near water reservoirs to prevent accidental drowning during holy bathing rituals. Strict warnings have also been issued against food adulteration, vendor overpricing, and the carrying of weapons inside service camps.
