Regal Partners investment executive Philip King has begun a staged transition toward retirement, with his departure planned for 2027. King, the chief investment officer of the firm's long-short equity strategies, will remain with the company until at least June 30, 2027, to support an orderly transition and maintain continuity for clients and investors, according to Financial Standard.

King manages about 16% of Regal's total funds under management, which stood at A$21.4 billion. The company said there will be no immediate change to his current portfolio management responsibilities or those of the broader long-short equities team during the transition.

The Philip King retirement 2027 plan follows more than two decades of his involvement with Regal. Before joining the investment manager, King worked as a portfolio manager at London-based De Putron Fund Management and spent more than five years as an equities analyst at Macquarie Bank. He began his career at KPMG in 1987 and was inducted into the Australian Fund Managers Hall of Fame in 2019.

King said he was proud of what had been achieved at Regal and believed it was the right time to begin his transition toward retirement. He will continue managing his existing portfolios and supporting the business during the transition while retaining a significant investment with Regal.

Regal Partners chief executive Brendan O'Connor said King had played a defining role in building the business. The company said its Regal Partners succession plan prioritises continuity for clients, shareholders and employees.

The transition comes as Regal reports strong recent financial performance. The company recorded about A$1.4 billion in net client inflows during the six months to June 30, while statutory net profit after tax rose 258% year on year to A$94.1 million. Regal also plans to establish an investment committee of experienced investment leaders to oversee investment performance, governance and capital allocation across its strategies.

More information about the company's investment operations is available through the Regal Partners official website. The retirement announcement was also formally disclosed through the ASX announcement.
