MUMBAI — Some records get broken within a few years. Others feel permanently out of reach. Rohit Sharma's ODI career has produced several of the latter — numbers so specific to his style of batting that few players in the modern game seem capable of matching them.

The Highest Individual Score in ODI History: 264

On November 13, 2014, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Rohit produced the single greatest innings in ODI history — an unbeaten 264 against Sri Lanka, laced with 33 fours and 9 sixes. Nearly a dozen years on, no batter has come within 30 runs of it. It remains the highest individual score ever recorded in the format.

The Only Batter With Three ODI Double Centuries

Double hundreds in ODIs are rare enough on their own — only a handful of players have ever managed one. Rohit has three: 209 against Australia in Bengaluru (2013), the record 264 against Sri Lanka (2014), and an unbeaten 208 against Sri Lanka in Mohali (2017). No other batter in the format's history has more than one.

Most Centuries in ODI World Cup History

Rohit has scored seven centuries across ODI World Cup tournaments — one in 2015, five in the 2019 edition alone, and another in 2023 — surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's previous record of six centuries, and doing it in far fewer innings. His haul of five hundreds in a single World Cup (2019) is itself a record no other batter has matched.

Most Sixes in a Single World Cup Edition

During the 2023 World Cup on home soil, Rohit struck 23 sixes across the tournament, breaking Eoin Morgan's previous record of 22 set in 2019. He also finished with 28 sixes across all his India World Cup appearances, overtaking Tendulkar's tally for the most sixes by an Indian batter in World Cup history.

Most Sixes in ODI Cricket, All-Time

In November 2025, Rohit surpassed Pakistan's Shahid Afridi to become the leading six-hitter in ODI history, a record Afridi had held for years. It capped a career built on clean, effortless power-hitting rather than manufactured slogging — a rare combination that helped him rack up sixes at a rate few others have matched.

Most Sixes in an ODI Calendar Year

During the 2023 World Cup year, Rohit hit 59 sixes in ODI cricket, breaking AB de Villiers' previous record of most sixes in a calendar year, set in 2015. He achieved it in a year where he was also captaining India through a World Cup campaign — a rare instance of volume and pressure combining without any drop in his six-hitting output.

Back-to-Back 500-Run World Cups

Rohit is the first player in history to score more than 500 runs in two consecutive World Cup editions (2019 and 2023), and he matched Tendulkar's record of scoring 500-plus runs across two separate World Cup tournaments overall.

Third on the All-Time ODI Centuries List

With 33 ODI hundreds, Rohit sits third on the all-time list behind Tendulkar's 49 and Virat Kohli's ongoing tally — a fitting position for a batter who took three years after his 2007 debut just to score his first ODI century, before turning into one of the format's most prolific hundred-makers once he was promoted to open the innings in 2013.

Taken together, these numbers describe a batter who didn't just accumulate runs but reshaped what was considered possible in one-day cricket — records built on a rare mix of longevity, timing and raw power that future generations will find difficult to replicate.
