Shubman Gill becomes new King of ODIs; becomes No. 1 ranked batter in world
Shubman Gill has leapfrogged New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell to become the new number one ranked ODI batter.
Indians continue to dominate the ICC World ODI rankings. After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli swapped places at the top of the rankings, it is India's captain Shubman Gill, who has become the new world number one ranked ODI batter.
Gill, who endured another series defeat recently against England, has been at peak of his powers. This year, he has hammered 591 runs at an incredible average of 93.50 after eight appereances. Lastly, he was seen in England, where India endured 1-2 defeat. However, Gill ended the series as India's highest-run getter with 188 runs at 62.67 runs per game at an average. With this, Gill has officially become numero uno in the list.
Shubman Gill becomes new King of ODIs
Dubbed as 'Prince of Cricket' Shubman Gill should be considered as one of the best batters in current times. Ever since he has become India's Test captain, no other batter has scored more international runs for India than him.
Since June 2025, Gill has amassed 1971 runs in international cricket. The tally includes seven hundreds and six fifties and at an average of almost 58. The difference between him and the second-placed (KL Rahul) is vast. Basically of over 700 runs as Rahul has 1265 runs.
In ODIs, all three of Gill, Rohit and Kohli are forming up an incredible top three. While Gill is certainly entering his peak, Rohit and Kohli are giving their all to have their say till the ODI World Cup 2027.

India's next ODI assignment will be up against the West Indies at home in September. Before that, there are talks going on between the BCCI and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for a potential bilateral in Bangladesh. It all depends if the Indian government gives a greenlight to the series. If that happens, the Bangladesh rubber will happen first, potentially in September only. The West Indies ODI series is scheduled on September 27, 30 and October 03.
