Dehradun-Delhi Bus Fare Down ₹65 via Expressway During Kanwar Yatra
Passengers traveling between Dehradun and Delhi during Kanwar Yatra benefit from a ₹65 bus fare drop and a 3-hour time saving as buses switch to the expressway.
Dehradun to Delhi Travel Becomes Cheaper and Faster During Kanwar Yatra
DEHRADUN, India — Passengers traveling between Dehradun and New Delhi during the annual Kanwar Yatra are experiencing unexpected fare reductions and significant time savings as state transport buses pivot to the newly operational Delhi–Dehradun Expressway. In a departure from previous years, when annual pilgrimage diversions resulted in longer routes, severe traffic gridlock, and inflated ticket prices, the shift to the direct high-speed corridor has slashed standard bus fares by ₹65 while reducing overall travel times by up to three hours.
According to officials from the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC), ordinary and express state buses that previously navigated congested regional highways through Chhutmalpur, Roorkee, Muzaffarnagar, and Meerut have been redirected via the access-controlled Delhi–Dehradun Expressway to bypass traditional pilgrimage choke points. By utilizing the streamlined expressway alignment, buses are completing the inter-state journey in roughly three to three-and-a-half hours nearly cutting in half the six-to-seven-hour transit times logged on legacy routes.
The rerouting has also yielded direct cost benefits for daily commuters and budget travelers. Shorter total mileage along the expressway, combined with reduced idling in heavy festival traffic, has lowered fuel consumption for state transport units. These operational savings have translated into lower base fare structures for commuters, with standard passenger fares reduced by ₹65 per ticket.
Transport authorities noted that while sending ordinary buses along non-stop expressway corridors slightly alters traditional local passenger drop-offs along intermediate rural stops, the priority during the high-density Kanwar Yatra window remains maintaining smooth interstate mobility and preventing gridlock across western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Daily operations at the Dehradun Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) continue at full capacity, with nearly 100 daily trips scheduled to serve the Delhi NCR route throughout the festival period.
